60.8 % SKN population receives first dose of COVID vaccine

According to the vaccination report, as of 1 June 2021, a total of 60.8 per cent of the population of St Kitts and Nevis has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Saint Kitts and Nevis: According to the vaccination report, as of 1 June 2021, a total of 60.8 per cent of the population of St Kitts and Nevis has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The vaccination report states that a total of 27,749 COVID-19 doses have been administered in twin islands, out of which 21,140 doses have been administered in St Kitts and around 6,609 doses have been administered in Nevis as of 1 June 2021.

A total of 23.2 per cent of the population of twin-islands have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and are now fully vaccinated against the mutant till 1 June 2021.

The vaccination report was shared by the Prime Minister of SKN islands- Timothy Harris, via his social media handle. PM Harris has also appreciated those individuals who stepped forward and got their jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine and also urged the others to come forward and vaccinate themselves against the novel coronavirus so that the twin-islands can defeat the pandemic.

Despite this, the department of Labour of SKN has appealed to all the employers to be considerate and empathetic towards the workers and further asked to preserve their employment as they have been asked to be in quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic by the health authorities of St Kitts and Nevis.

The department of labour stated, “Where possible, employers continue to pay wages or salaries in full or up to at least 35 per cent, as the workers who are quarantined might be able to claim the sickness benefit in accordance with schedule 8 part 3, section 9 (2) of the Social Security Act.”

The department further encouraged employers to make sure that all the staff members and workers adhere to the health protocols of COVID-19.
