The Parliamentary Representatives wrote a letter to the Governor-General and expressed their no confidence.
While expressing commitment to Team Unity, Deputy PM Shawn K Richards noted,” I stand in support and solidarity with the concept of unity amongst our people and political leaders an idea and a movement that brought us to new heights in the last seven years and that has helped us to successfully navigate the challenges brought on by the COVID- 19 pandemic.”
He further stated that the concept of unity is based on mutual respect trust honesty and fairness the concept of unity shall only thrive by its very nature and inclusion and by at every turn keeping the promise and keeping our word to each other for the last five years. Almost every member of the team unity government has lived by those broad principles and have kept the promise even when at times sticking to the principles for which we signed on to had put us at a disadvantage it was always clear.”
“We informed Governor-General that we no longer support nor do we have any confidence in Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris. The 6 MPs also informed the Governor-General that they entrust their full trust and confidence in Shawn K Richards to serve as Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis,” said Leader of People’s Action Movement, Shawn Richards.
The six MPs included three leaders of PAM, Shawn K Richards, Lindsey Grant, Jonel Powell and three leaders of Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), Mark Brantley, Eric Evelyn and Alexis Jeffers.
“Every time we tried offering an open hand of partnership, Dr Harris extended a closed fist of deception, delay and mistrust. Therefore we have left with no alternative but to take decisive actions,” Richards asserted.
He further said, “Unfortunately, in recent months that respect has broken down; and accords signed disregarded. The very concept of the unity on which we promised to govern, has in some instances been systematically and deliberately undermined.”
