Richard Caring frustrated over Westminster Council for delaying Mark's Club Revamp
Mayfair club owner Richard Caring is locked in a battle with Westminster Council as he seeks approval for a multi-million-pound renovation of his Mark’s Club, in Mayfair London.
Caring recently spoke at a preview event at the club George, where he shared his frustration at the waiting game for council approval. He also compared the entire process to similar to “giving birth to triplets” and emphasized the challenges involved.
With the steps to renovate Mark’s Club, Richard Caring seems determined to give his competition a tough run. This is anticipated to worry his long-term rival, Robin Birley, the owner of nearby 5 Hertford Street.
Notably, Birley’s father sold his clubs to Richard Caring in 2007, setting the stage for their ongoing rivalry.
In March this year, some local media outlets revealed Caring’s plans to move Mark’s Club to Berkeley Square, just close to his other venue, Annabel’s.
However, Caring added that not all his clubs could undergo such renovations. He also shared a humorous incident involving the Bath & Racquets Club, where clients staged a riot when he tried to move forward with renovations, leading him to abandon the project.
Richard Caring’s battle with Westminster Council highlights his determination to enhance the appeal of Mark’s Club.
As the future of this renowned establishment hangs in the balance, Caring and his rival, Robin Birley, are poised to shape Mayfair’s exclusive club scene. The outcome of this battle will have lasting effects on the city’s elite social circles.
Established in 1972, Mark’s Club is a prviate members only club and restaurant in Mayfair, London. It was also opened by Mark Birley, but he later sold it to Caring in 2007. The club also had a major interior renovation by Tino Zervudachi in 2015, but Caring now seeks to give it a major revamp.
The Mark’s Club is renowned for its exclusivity, and hosts many events related to fashion and lifestyle.
