Grenada: As the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games concluded, the government of Grenada held a ceremony to welcome the team returning from the games after recording huge success. They have been honoured by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture to achieve success at the World Athletic Championship and Commonwealth Games. 

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell also welcomed Anderson Peters and Coach Paul Philip and appreciated them for securing a silver medal in the games. 

On Tuesday, August 9th 2022, the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture held a ceremony to welcome the team home, following successes at the World Athletic Championship and Commonwealth Games.

The ceremony was held at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (M.B.I.A) V.I.P lounge. In attendance was Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Ron Redhead, along with an Executive Team of Republic Bank Grenada, The Grenada Olympic Committee, and family and friends of the Grenadian Javelin Champion.

Anderson Peters, who is a gold medal winner and champion of the World Athletics Championship, grabs Silver Medal. Anderson Peters grabbed the silver medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Peters best throw was 88.64M; however, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan threw a further 90.18M, which was also a game’s record. Grenada citizens congratulate Anderson for yet another great performance.

Grenada’s Issiah Patrick Runs 13.98 Seconds in the mens 110m Hurdle heats, and sets a National U20 Record in the event! His time qualifies him for the Semi-Finals!

Grenada authorities stated, “Congratulations Issiah! We’re looking forward to seeing you represent us in the Semis.”

Further, the government of Grenada also announced that three of our match officials have been appointed to the Caribbean Football Union’s 2022 Boys’ U14 Challenge Series in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

These development matches will provide much-needed competition experience and provide the opportunity for assessment of youth and referee development programmes, respectively.

The match officials were scheduled to arrive at the venue today for a refereeing workshop and assignments to be completed before the tournament.

The match officials representing Grenada are:

1) Mc Manaman Bedeau of Gouyave, St. John, a GFA Referee for the past five years

2) Jade Paul of Victoria, St. Mark, an assistant referee for seven years

3) Kessy Phillip of Fontenoy, St. George, an assistant referee for the past 3 years
