President Ali assures flood-affected citizens to help in rebuilding process

Guyana: The President of Guyana island – Dr Irfaan Ali, on 9 June 2021, visited Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) and Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).

President Ali, during his visit to the areas, met with the citizens and farmers of Fyrish, Chesney New Housing Scheme, Chesney Old Housing Scheme, Babu John, Miss Phoebe, Manchester, Mibicuri, Johanna, in Region Six.

He also paid a visit to Big Biaboo, Mortice, Wash Clothes/Hyde Park, Barabara and Pine Ground in the Mahaica/Mahaicony area.

The President of Guyana was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall, Head of the CDC, Lt. Col. Kester Craig, Head of the NDIA – Lionel Wordsworth and Regional officials.

With the members of his high-level government officials, President Ali addressed a flood assessment meeting in East Berbice-Corentyne. The President also led a team on a huge outreach exercise across Region Six to brief citizens from affected communities on the ongoing flood situation

, intervention measures, and, most importantly, to personally address their concerns.

During his interaction with citizens, he listened to the situation and stories of various affected persons and promised to set systems in place that would help the inhabitants at different stages of the rebuilding process.

With this visit, the flood assessment examination concludes in Region five and Region six.

The President further ensured the government’s support to the residents of the flood-affected areas in the nation, and actions would be taken to bring relief to those who have been affected by the flood.

For the past few days, President Ali has inspected flood-affected areas of the country and interacted with the people.

He has ensured long-term solutions to the citizens and stated that the preference of the Guyana government is to provide sufficient food supplies, shelter and access to health amenities to the residents of the flood-affected areas.
