Dominica government handed over ten houses in Cochrane

The government of Dominica handed ten climate-resilient homes to Cochrane during a ceremony under the government's initiative of Housing the Nation.

Dominica: The government of Dominica handed ten climate-resilient homes to Cochrane during a ceremony under the government’s initiative of Housing the Nation.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development – Reginald Austrie, while speaking during the handing over ceremony, informed that only the site preparation of the houses cost us up to 130 thousand dollars.

The minister added that “When you all will be entering the homes, you would be entering the house of worth 300 thousand dollars.”

He further congratulated the government of Dominica

for this massive investment and development initiative.

He stated that this construction of homes is started since 2018, but the project got delayed because of the road construction, lights and infrastructure.

He then appreciated the efforts of the labour who helped in the development of the homes and in the development of the nation.

“One of the main challenges in the development of the nation has been the homeless people, and to tackle this challenge, our government in 2019 manifesto promised to built around 500 houses for homeless and needy people”, the minister asserted.

With this, the housing minister also praised the Prime Minister of Dominica – Roosevelt Skerrit for his determination and continuous efforts in the development of the island.

Various other ministers and officials were also present at the handing over ceremony.

During the ceremony, PM Skerrit cited, “These housing revolution has touched every community, and constituency of Dominica. As a government, we understand the significance of housing.”

He added that “Once you have adequate housing accommodation
with access to the various facilities. This would definitely improve the standard of living of the people of the country.”

PM Skerrit concluded that “The housing nation initiative is a way through which the residents would be placed in a better position.
