Lockdown extends till 14 June in North Andros, Central Andros and Cat island

has announced the extension of lockdown till 14 June 2021 in the North Andros, Central Andros and Cat Island.

These regions would remain under lockdown until 5 am Monday, 14 June 2021. According to the Emergency Powers – COVID 19 Pandemic, Management and Recovery, North Andros, Central Andros and Cat Island Lockdown – Amendment (No. 3) Order, 2021, the lockdown has been extended from 14 days to 21 days.

The Bahamas government shared this information in a press release via social media handle. 

As per the recent amendment order, the residents of Andros island have permitted the harvesting of crabs between 8 pm and 5 am or as unless approved by the Royal Bahamas Police Officer in charge for North Andros or Central Andros.

The farmers in North Andros, Central Andros and Cat Island are allowed to visit their farm to water, tend and harvest between the hours of 5 am and 9 am, as per the recent amendment in the order. 

The North Andros, Central Andros and Cat islands were earlier placed under a lockdown on 24 May 2021, in order to regulate and control the cases of the novel coronavirus and reduce its spread in these communities. 

According to the statistics, since the COVID-19 pandemic started the Bahamas island has reported a total of 11,930 cases of the COVID-19 virus out of which a total of 10,932 people recovered from the novel coronavirus.

So far, the island has reported a total of 232 deaths because of the deadly mutant. 

As per reports, a total of 55,037 doses have been administered on the island and around 8,659 individuals have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and are fully vaccinated against the pandemic now, which is around 2.2 per cent of the population of the Bahamas island.
