India/Antigua: Gaston Browne- Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, is receiving immense appreciation from the people of India for his stand against fugitive Mehul Choksi and a bold move to bring a fugitive to justice.

In a recent development, lawyers and the general public in India have requested Browne to write an official letter explaining the revocation of the Antigua and Barbuda citizenship of fugitive Mehul Choksi and present the document in court as well as to the office of Attorney General, Dominica to strengthen the case towards Choksi’s extradition to India.

Choksi obtained citizenship by providing false documents. Different Indian lawyers while talking with a local media organisation, said they believe that if Prime Minister Browne writes an official letter to testify his claims – which he has made during media interviews, then the case can get intense strength, and Choksi’s extradition to India might become beyond doubt.

Indians are actively sharing their views on Twitter, where Gaston Browne has become a favourite of people for standing still against an international criminal, while some are calling it exemplary leadership. People are overwhelmed with Gaston Browne’s efforts to send Mehul Choksi back to India, where he is accused of defrauding Panjab National Bank (PNB).

After Mehul Choksi was found in Dominica, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne demanded his extradition to India. Browne’s gestures have made him immensely popular in India, where people desperately want Choksi to be confronted for his crimes.

Browne is gaining tremendous popularity in India, with many coming to support his decision of extraditing Choksi to the country
, where he robbed the taxpayer’s money.

Mehul Choksi not only defrauded the bank, but he robbed the money from the general public who pays tax. People have been demanding his extradition so that the money he looted comes back to the treasury of Panjab National Bank (PNB).

In 2017, Mehul Choksi left India for Antigua and Barbuda, from where he had obtained citizenship under the economic citizenship programme. While in June 2018, his lawyers informed the Bombay High Court that he left India for medical treatments abroad. Ever since Mehul Choksi arrived in Antigua, he never went back to India. After several court hearings, the government of India declared him a fugitive for running to a different country after defrauding PNB.

Mehul Choksi’s nephew Nirav Modi also defrauded Panjab National Bank and is accused of embezzling $2 billion and running to the United Kingdom on a golden visa. Similarly, Mehul Choksi’s brother Chetan Choksi is a bank defaulter too.
