St Lucia records new COVID-19 cases

Saint Lucia: The Health and Wellness Ministry has confirmed thirteen new COVID-19 cases in St Lucia as of 1 June 2021.

This confirmation of new positive cases came from Ezra long Laboratory, and these positive results came from the batch of 145 samples taken between 28 May to 30 May 2021. These samples were further processed on 31 May 2021.

These new cases were seen at several community respiratory clinics of St Lucia, where they were assessed and further tested for COVID-19 mutant.

Following the COVID-19 testing protocols, individuals were placed in home quarantine on the advice of the healthcare practitioners while they wait for their COVID-19 test results.

Since then, further arrangements have been created to place these individuals into isolation, and the contact tracing for these new positive cases is currently undertaken.

Despite this, the Ministry of Health and Wellness also provided confirmation of eighteen individuals who have been recovered from the deadly COVID-19 virus.

Currently, there is a total number of active cases recorded in the country to date to 158.

According to the statistics, since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the island has reported a total of 5085 novel coronavirus cases. A total of 4,853 individuals have been recovered from the deadly COVID-19 mutant.

So far, the island has a death rate of seventy-nine due to the COVID-19 virus

The statistics further states that till 1 June 2021, a total of 28,262 individuals have got their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is around 15.5 per cent of the population of St Lucia.

On the other hand, a total of 18,862 individuals have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and are fully vaccinated now against the novel coronavirus, which is around 10.3 per cent of the population of the island.
