St Lucia records 28 new COVID cases

The Ministry of health and wellness received confirmation of 28 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory on Friday, May 14, 2021, in Saint Lucia island.

Saint Lucia: The Ministry of health and wellness received confirmation of 28 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory on Friday, May 14, 2021, in Saint Lucia island.

These samples were treated on 13 May 2021, and these new cases were seen at several area respiratory clinics, where they were evaluated and tested for the COVID-19 virus.

The Ministry also confirmed the recovery of nine individuals taking the total number of active cases in the country till date to – 197, while including these new COVID-19 active cases take the total number of active cases to 4788.

Healthcare practitioners have placed these individuals in-home quarantine while expecting the return of their COVID-19 test results, keeping with the nationwide COVID- 19 testing protocols. 

Further arrangements have already been made to place these newly diagnosed individuals in isolation, and the contact tracing for these new cases is begun.

Currently, two active cases from the rest require crucial care at the respiratory hospital.

So far, till May 13, 2021, a total of 25,939 people have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
, and till now, – 16,124 people have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Further, on May 15, 2021, the health team would be directing the COVID-19 vaccine at the – Vigie sports complex. People who are receiving their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and those who are receiving their second dose can visit the vaccination site.

The Ministry of Health highlights the value of practising infection prevention and control measures to lessen the spread of the COVID-19 virus – 

  •   Wear a mask at public places and ensure it covers the mouth, chin and nose
  • Often wash your hands using soap and water
  •  Maintain a physical distance from others
  •  Sanitize frequently with a bleach solution while after or before touching surfaces and often handled objects
  •  Avoid any type of contact with the people who have flu like symptoms
  • If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, keep away from others and go for medical care
