Grenada: During a press interview conducted on 29 April, the Prime Minister of the neighbouring island- Grenada,- PM Keith Mitchell, showed his solidarity to SVG amid the eruptions and COVID-19 pandemic and stated that “I pray for the people of St. Vincent in these difficult times.”
Further expressing, he said, “It pains me every morning and night, I kneel to pray for the wellbeing of the people of St Vincent. Knowing that I won’t be able to plan automatically as the wind came, a storm came and went into the places, whatever time was.”
“We look towards recovery, to have a volcano and you don’t know anything when the eruption will stop. Even now while it has not happened from last few days, and we can’t say, you can’t just go back and clean up and get ready, to make life again.”
assistance to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and asserted, “I understand the situation and government is making its contribution to the people of St Vincent and we are prepared as we said -as a nation to take in evacuees, so far we not have had any evacuees who would come into and reside temporarily but there are plans to take some evacuees with the protocols which have been established by the government.”
On the current COVID-19 situation and ongoing vaccine process in various countries, PM Keith urged people to get vaccinated and further cited, “Government
would not make a law in the parliament that one must get vaccinated but it is the duty of every individual to get themselves and their families vaccinated.”
“Every individual, every church leader, shopkeepers, businessman and every citizen must encourage people in their surroundings and whom they meet to get themselves vaccinated. As this is a health and life issue nor a political issue.”
Adding to this he further said, “In my view, Grenada is well-poised for recovery, there are development projects that are ongoing in both- public and private sectors, with many others to common stream.”
Thousands of jobs have been created by the public sector projects in this particular time,” cited PM Mitchell.
