Trinidad and Tobago sends cleaning supplies to Barbados to clear ashfall

Barbados is experiencing a heavy ashfall due to the massive volcanic eruption at La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Barbados: Barbados is experiencing a heavy ashfall due to the massive volcanic eruption at La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines. As an effort to assist the country, cleaning supplies left from Trinidad and Tobago.

The National Security Ministry, through the ODPM – Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management, has assisted relief efforts to Barbados for the clean up of the ashfall from La Soufriere effusive volcanic eruptions.

Trade Ministry and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA) on S aturday provided assistance in collecting the cleaning items.

The cleaning items were further stored at OPDM’s warehouse, which with the endorsement of the Soldiers of First Engineer Battalion (Trinidad and Tobago Regiment)

were lifted to (TTAG) Trinidad and Tobacco Air Guards Ullric Cross Air Station.

On 17th April at around 2 pm with 2,000 lbs of cargo on board, The Air Guard’s aircraft departed to Barbados’ from Grantley Adams International Airport, Trinidad.

After one hour, the RSS aircraft later departed to the same destination with 2,800 lbs of cargo and another 1000 lbs cargo is waiting to reach Barbados, which is expected to be shipped within the next 48 hours.

Many other countries, islands and organisations are providing a helping hand to Barbados. These effusive volcanic eruptions have affected the inhabitants drastically. They are left with unclean water and without electricity. The evacuation of the inhabitants is still going on but the COVID-19 situation has made it more difficult.

As of the ongoing volcanic eruptions in La Soufriere. The National Security Ministry through the ODPM – Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management has assisted relief efforts to Barbados, for the clean up of the ashfall from La Soufriere effusive volcanic eruptions. These cleaning items were further stored at OPDM’s warehouse, which with the endorsement of the Soldiers of First Engineer Battalion (Trinidad and Tobago Regiment) were lifted to (TTAG) Trinidad and Tobacco Air Guards Ullric Cross Air Station.
TTAG and RSS (Regional security system) provided aircraft to load the cargo.
