Dominica: “Tax played a crucial role in developing any country and it’s the civic duty of every citizen to pay taxes on time, ” says Joffrey Joseph, Assistant Comptroller, Audit LMTS during Prime minister of Dominica weekly programme ‘Annou Plale ‘.

Jeoffrey Josephs said that the act of filing taxes is significant; people need to declare what their income has been by the year and added it is substantial in the development of the country, which comprises running educational institutes, facilitate in health-care etc. 

Jeoffrey Joseph added, ” if people cannot file the tax, they can talk to comptroller and comptroller has full authorization to decide whether access would be given or not.”

In the programme, he was joined with Lydia Talot-Assistant Comptroller, Collection LMTS and answered tax-related queries to the people of Dominica. 

Also, the prime minister of Dominica noted that the IMF is assisting Dominica to make good tax system. 

“Government is currently reviewing the tax system of the country as the aim is to have one flat-rate of tax and IMF is helping Dominica in reviewing the tax systems.” PM Skerrit noted.

Jeoffrey Joseph further noted that people are urged to file paper-based returns due to some technical difficulties. However, the forms can be downloaded directly from the website, and people can fill and submit via email at at ird@dominica.gov.dm  

As the pandemic disrupted the many global economies, Dominica is also trying to revive from this; in order to that, different ministries are trying to generate economy. 

Prime Minister Skerrit also urged people to get vaccinated themselves; he noted that in the combat against COVID whole world is trying to defeat it. 

He noted that vaccination would allow tourists to visit Dominica, which would lead to boosting the economy, which required the most at this time.
