St Lucia: Saint Lucia labour party head Philip J. Pierre made some suggestions to the ruling government for the COVID-19 Rescue Plan on 9th February 2021 to protect the education sector.
He said,” The actions of the Government in opening schools on 11th January when the country faced its most dangerous COVID spike ever, was simply irresponsible.”
Pierre noted,” The Government should keep schools closed until the length of time it will take to decrease the transmission rate to below 5 cases per week over a two week period or when tests are readily available at our schools.”
He pointed out, “Ensure that all teachers and students have the necessary technology to facilitate online learning during that period. The Government’s callous holding of the SLP’s Laptop Programme in schools has been shown for its stupidity, now that online teaching and training is critical. ”
Saint Lucia labour party head said, ” Resume the National WI FI Programme, which was confirmed by the Republic of China (Taiwan), again callously closed by the Government, so that children can reach the internet from their houses.”
“Many kids depended on the School Feeding Programme for food. Many parents now fight with having to support children at home all day, every day. I call on the Govt to show some empathy and to provide food vouchers or grants to the parents in need.” He noted.
Saint Lucia currently in callous conditions as they are fighting against two diseases.
Prominent opposition leader continuously raises questions against the government steps. Apart from this, he is also giving suggestions to the Allen Chastanet government for the island nation’s well being.
“Saint Lucians are suffering, struggling to survive and the rising number of COVID-19 cases is deeply worrying. Our loved ones are losing their lives. Our front line workers are tired and concerned while the Prime Minister is deaf to the cries of our people. What is the plan to get the virus under control and to bring economic relief to SaintLucian’s?”
