About Chevening Scholarship –

This scholarship programme was initiated in 1983 as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Awards Scheme (FCOAS) and is financed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British government and its partner organisations.

In the year 1994, the name of the scheme was modified to Chevening, after Chevening House in Sevenoaks, Kent, which is currently the joint official residence of the British Foreign Secretary and the British Deputy Prime Minister.

The objective of this scholarship –

The primary purpose of the scholarship is to build a network of supporters of the United Kingdom, who will become the future leaders in their countries. This programme gives an opportunity for mid-career professionals who are already in positions of leadership and influence to undertake 3-month courses in fields related to the FCO’s policy goals.Â
