Guyana: President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, announced that he is promising that his Government will provide treated and purified water to the people who live along the coast of the country by 2025.
Irfaan Ali stated by 2025, 100 percent of residents at the coast area of Guyana would be able to get the treated water for drinking and for various other matters.
While announcing, the office of the President, through his Facebook Post, cited, “Dr Irfaan Ali promised that by 2025, 100 percent of residents along the coast would have access to treated water”.
Outlining the investment of the Government to make the reality of the project, President mentioned that to achieve this landmark and other innovative improvements, the Government has earmarked $11b.
He emphasized that the significant investment which will be expended in the sector by the Government would incredibly expand various sectors.
President Ali affirmed, “To achieve this landmark and other innovative improvements, the Government has earmarked $11b, which will be expended in the sector”.
The President of Guyana has made the announcement during the commission of a new weel station at Lusignan on the East Coast of Demerara.
Stressing upon the various benefits of the project, Irfaan Ali highlighted that the $141m water distribution system would benefit some 22,000 residents of Lusignan and its surrounding communities.
Moreover, it would also benefit various projects along the coastal area of Guyana as water is a basic necessity.

President Iraffam Ali was accompanied by the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal; the Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues and CEO of GWI Shaik Baksh in the event.
One of the residents, named Anwar Shobha, applauded President Irfaan Ali and stated, “We deserve free water, electricity and subsidize the gas because oil money is here”.
